Maternal Autoimmune Diseases During Pregnancy and Offspring Type 1 Diabetes

Both maternal and paternal autoimmune diseases similarly increase the risk of offspring type 1 diabetes (T1D), pointing to shared familial susceptibility. But disease-specific variations suggest that intrauterine factors (= maternal) also contribute to T1D risk.

Evening Phone Use and Sleep Outcomes Among Youth

Longer smartphone use in the evening is associated with later sleep onset, delayed sleep offset, and shorter total sleep time in adolescents, while smartphone use immediately before bed increases total wake after sleep onset (= fragmented sleep).

Reducing Intervention and Length of Stay for Neonates With Transient Tachypnea of the Newborn

Using standardised clinical guidelines and standing orders in the electronic medical system for neonates with transient tachypnea safely reduced NICU length of stay from 90 to 51 hours and significantly decreased (unnecessary) medical interventions like IV fluids and peripheral catheters.

Exclusive and Any Breastfeeding, Infant Formula Feeding, and Childhood Growth

Longer durations of exclusive or partial breastfeeding are associated with a BMI and reduced odds of childhood overweight and obesity, while prolonged infant formula feeding is linked to an increased risk of elevated BMI.

Oxygen vs Air at Birth for Moderate- to Late-Preterm Infants: The AIROPLANE Cluster Randomized Crossover Trial

Performing delivery room resuscitation with 30% oxygen versus 21% (room air) for moderate- to late-preterm infants resulted in no significant difference in the proportion of neonates requiring ongoing respiratory support upon leaving the delivery room.
